AQUATIMER
A review by Damon, Marc & Kyle
~CONCLUSION~
DAMON:The IWC Aquatimer is a definite keeper for me. As a SCUBA diver, it has everything that I need in a dive watch. It's easy to read, has a high water resistant rating, a sturdy crown and an easy to use bezel. On land the watch is also perfect for me. It looks great on my wrist, and since it's steel, I can wear it with most types of clothing. As with any IWC, you're not only buying a great watch, you are also buying into the great service that IWC provides. They are the most customer oriented watch company out there and the pride that they put into each of their watches is easy to see.
MARC:When I first got my watch a couple of weeks ago, I was very pleased. I still had misgivings about its titaniumness, but figured I could live with it. Then my wife noticed, a few days later and made me feel bad about it. She said it looked like plastic. Step outside your WIS uniform and look at your watches from the point of view of someone who knows NOTHING about them. It does kind of look (gulp) cheap. Then I received my Oris BC3 Diver Regulator, a super heavy, solid stainless steel watch. It got me thinking about the stainless steel Aquatimer. After a day or so with the Oris, I went back to the IWC and WOW! It felt so AMAZING! My wrist was actually tired of wearing the gargantuan Oris. It felt as if I gave my wrist a tank top to wear in 40F weather after taking off a suit. I fell instantly in love with it all over again.
Needless to say the IWC Aquatimer is a definite keeper. Whether I will be seeking a stainless steel version in the future is still up for debate, but in the mean time I am very content with the model I have now. In my opinion, very few watches on the market right now can come close to its tool like attributes. It was truly designed for a diver. Too bad the deepest it will ever go is in my backyard pool, but it sure is nice to know that it can go places I can only dream of.
If you are looking for an understated, solid, comfortable, reliable and best of all COOL sports watch, the IWC Aquatimer is the watch for you! If you need a little more flash and can handle heavy watches, look into the stainless steel version, it just might be your cup of tea.
I would like to thank Damon for his review of the stainless model, Kyle for his wonderful pictures of the titanium model and Don Nelson from who I acquired my watch.
Thanks for reading,
